Welcome to Mrs. Garrity's fourth grade class

On our class site you will find different websites the students can use at home.  You will also find what we are learning this week.  Below you will find what homework is assigned for the night.  Students must turn in the homework when it is due, however, if the homework is not completed the student will miss recess until that homework is turned in.  If you have any questions about anything please feel free to contact me at any time!

what's new

This week in reading we are working on plot events. Students will need to list the main events that happen in the story in chronological order.  Every week your child will take a weekly lesson test over the weeks focus skill and comprehension strategy. Students should continue to read 20 minutes every night and log it on their monthly log.  It is important in fourth grade that we continue to read everyday.

Your child should be practicing their multiplication facts every day.  To start our math class we do a timed test.  Students should be able to complete 40 multiplication facts in 1 minute.  This week in math we are doing our NeSA review.  Students should be bringing home math homework everyday. If your child does not have math homework they should use that time to work on multiplication and division facts.

It's time to do some writing!  In fourth grade we focus on personal narratives.  Every week we begin a new story.  It is important that  when we are telling a story we have a clear beginning, middle and end.  In class we focus on one idea and expand on it.  We now know the 6-traits of writing and how we get the grades we get.

In science we are all scientists.  Right now we are learning all about rocks and minerals.  We are having a lot of fun identifying different characteristics of rocks and minerals. We get to learn so much in science through exploration.
